Synthesis of Monodisperse Silica Particles by Controlled Regrowth

Abstract The development of a simple and reproducible method for the synthesis monodisperse silica particles is considerable interest from point view their numerous applications in photonics, biosensing, biomedicine. When using well-known Stober method, there continuous formation growth seeds, which leads to polydisperse colloids. In this work, we used successive obtained by hydrolytic condensation tetraethylorthosilicate an alcoholic-aqueous medium alkaline catalyst. It shown that technique makes it possible obtain colloids with particle size 50 nm 3 μm standard deviation less than 5%. An additional advantage developed stepwise possibility include fluorophores SERS tags into matrix.
